5 minutes with…Megan Addle

What makes Carpenter Box Financial Advisers (CBFA) stand out from the rest is our people and their commitment to having great relationships with their clients, and with their colleagues.

In our ‘Five minutes with…’ series we meet some of the great team at Carpenter Box Financial Advisers. We posed various sets of questions to people across our firm to provide a glimpse into their lives and perspectives.

Next in line for an introduction is Sales Support, Megan Addle!

Tell us about yourself

My name is Megan Addle, and I’m one of our Sales Support team here at Carpenter Box Financial Advisers. I’ve lived in Worthing all my life, having been one of the last babies born in Shoreham hospital. My husband is from Yorkshire, so there are often disputes in our family over which part of the country makes the best fish and chips (it has to be Worthing right, we are by the sea!). I used to work as a cover teacher in a high school before moving across to CBFA and starting my career in Financial Services. With 3 years and 2 exams under my belt, I am excited about what my future at the firm may hold.

Describe a typical day for you in your role

This is one of those questions that strikes fear into the heart of any Sales Support team. Our role is so varied that there is no such thing as a ‘typical day’. My day often includes applying for clients’ pensions, GIAs or ISAs, investing or withdrawing funds from their accounts, taking client phone calls, and replying to their emails whilst ensuring our advisers and paraplanners are able to complete their jobs. The Sales Support team have an excellent memory between us as we often must know the application statuses of around 40 cases each at a time.

What is the best career/professional advice anyone has given you?

You need to enjoy your work life balance when you can! As your responsibilities in a company grow throughout your career it will be harder for you to enjoy your downtime at home, so enjoy it whilst you have it. Don’t have your emails on your phone, and stop thinking about those 100 things you didn’t do. Otherwise, you do not enjoy a ‘full recharge’ before heading back to work the next day, and that benefits no-one.

What do you value most about working at Carpenter Box Financial Advisers?

The team. Our team is full of so many characters and humour that it makes the days fly by. Even when tax year end approaches and we’re working long hours we still manage to find the enjoyable moments in the day even if it’s just asking the daily question of “What’s everyone having for dinner?”. I have never worked at a company with such a sense of teamwork as CBFA.

What are your plans for the future?

I plan to continue working through my Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning. Once I have achieved my qualifications, I would like to become a Financial Planning Manager. We need more female advisers within the industry as women are widely underrepresented. I also plan to go on a trip to Japan with my husband once the world opens up some more and we both get some time off!
