What makes Carpenter Box Financial Advisers (CBFA) stand out from the rest is our people and their commitment to having great relationships with their clients and colleagues.

In our ‘Five minutes with…’ series, we meet some of the great team at Carpenter Box Financial Advisers. We posed various questions to people across our firm to provide a glimpse into their lives and perspectives.

Paraplanner Ruth Jarvis

We catch up this week with ParaplannerRuth Jarvis!

Tell us about yourself:

Having entered the industry at 19 years old, I have gradually worked my way up from Apprentice Administration Assistant to Paraplanner through varying roles and exams. I began my career in the North of England and later moved back home to be near my family and friends in the South, and have worked for a variety of different companies, undertaking both Paraplanning and administrative duties.

What is the best career/professional advice anyone has given you?

When attempting the typical education route of college, I found that it really wasn’t suited to me or my learning style. I began to consider alternative options and it was suggested that I consider an apprenticeship. Having researched available opportunities, I became interested in the idea of administrative work within the financial sector and was able to secure a position while living in the North. This really boosted my career and put me in front of the relevant people who were able recognise my potential going forwards.

Describe a typical day for you in your role

My main focus is on creating valuations and follow-up letters for clients. This generally involves illustrating fund performance, generating cashflow models for clients and writing recommendation reports as instructed by the financial advisers.

Outside of work, what keeps you busy?

When I’m not studying, I spend a lot of my time in the gym or on my PC playing Valorant. I also enjoy spending my downtime at home with my two cats, Zimmy and Maggy.

What are your ambitions whilst working at Carpenter Box Financial Advisers?

Since entering the industry, my end goal was always to become a Paraplanner, which I have now achieved! Going forwards, I hope to specialise further in my role and attain Chartered status. I am one exam away from becoming diploma qualified and once achieved, I will be focusing on my Chartered journey in order to improve my technical knowledge and establish which type of advice I wish to focus my career on.
