5 minutes with…Shelley Bartup-Sim
What makes Carpenter Box Financial Advisers (CBFA) stand out from the rest is our people and their commitment to having great relationships with their clients, and with their colleagues.
In our ‘Five minutes with…’ series we meet some of the great team at Carpenter Box Financial Advisers. We posed various sets of questions to people across our firm to provide a glimpse into their lives and perspectives.
This week, it’s the turn of Paraplanner, Shelley Bartup-Sim!
Tell us about yourself
I’m Shelley, I have recently moved to the role of Paraplanner having previously worked within the Sales Support function. I was born in Brighton, raised in Worthing where I now live on the seafront. I’ve previously worked on the checkouts at Tesco and as a primary school teacher.
What is the best career/professional advice anyone has ever given you?
This nugget of wisdom came from our very own Senior Financial Planning Manager, Gill Lynes: “If in doubt, pick c)” – thanks Gill! That advice got me through my exams in one piece! Also thanks to our Operations Manager, Emma Westwood, who reminded me that it’s okay to ask for help and support when needed, you don’t have to tackle everything on your own.
What made you begin your career in financial services?
I had finished a year of primary teaching and realised it wasn’t for me. I knew people who worked at Carpenter Box and spoke highly of it and an administrator position had opened, so I put myself forward. I had never really thought about where I wanted my career to go, but Carpenter Box Financial Advisers encouraged me to take on a few exams and were so welcoming I couldn’t see myself doing anything else.
What do you value most about working at Carpenter Box Financial Advisers?
The people I work with. They are such a hard-working bunch of brainboxes and yet always find the time to support and uplift each other. Even when we’re up against it we find something to laugh about. There’s no team quite like us!
What are your plans for the future?
To learn all I can from my colleagues and improve my technical knowledge so I can contribute further to the team and the client experience. Hopefully managing to read a few books and check out some horror films along the way.
